Associate Professor
Giles Brereton is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University whose research is concerned with practical mathematical models of fluid turbulence using Reynolds-averaged single-point closures. He is particularly interested in developing models that can describe both equilibrium flows and the strongly non-equilibrium ones that arise on account of transient spatial/temporal forcing, through imposed boundary conditions or field effects. His recent research activities include developing: ML-informed closures for turbulent flow over surfaces of arbitrary roughness; non-equilibrium turbulence closures; mathematical solutions for flows of arbitrary unsteadiness in elastic tubes; and developing/demonstrating experimentally methods of achieving very-high axial heat flux in oscillatory tube flow.
