Farhad Jaberi is Professor of Mechanical Engineering and director of Computational Fluid Dynamics Laboratory at MSU. His research is focused on turbulence, turbulent mixing and reaction, statistical modeling and multi-scale simulations of turbulent flows in extreme environments with and without multi-component/multi-phase transport, phase-change, shock waves, nontrivial surfaces and/or combustion. Among various mathematical and computational models, Jaberi’s team has developed a new class of high-fidelity models based on the large eddy simulation and filtered density function concepts that can capture turbulence interactions with shock waves, chemical reaction etc. and may be used for computations of non-canonical turbulent flows for conditions that laboratory experiment is not possible or very difficult to conduct. In support of the modeling efforts, detailed, large-scale data have been generated by Jaberi’s team for several fundamental, but relevant, turbulent flows by direct numerical simulation method. The generated numerical data sets have been used for better understanding of the flow physics and for the development/improvement of models. Most of Dr. Jaberi’s previous research programs have been sponsored by the US governmental agencies (NSF, DOE, NASA, ONR, AFOSR, AFRL, DLA,….). He is the recipient of the prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER award and Office of Naval Research YIP award.
