Hussein Aluie is Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Professor of Mathematics in the School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Rochester. He is also Senior Scientist at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics, home to the OMEGA Laser Facility. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), was awarded the DOE Early Career Award, and was selected as a Young Observers by USNCTAM, which represents the mechanics community within the US National Academies. His research focuses on multiscale fluid dynamics, instabilities, and turbulence, including the development of coarse-graining methods for analyzing and modeling complex flows. His Complex Flow Group is diverse in both the background of its members and scientific scope. The group's research has appeared in trans-disciplinary journals, including Nature, Science Advances, Physical Review Letters, as well as in disciplinary journals spanning fluid mechanics, plasma physics, applied mathematics, astrophysics, and oceanography. Hussein has an ongoing relationship with the Rochester Museum and Science Center and is certified as a Science Alive Featured Presenter, a program for community kids to participate in live science demonstrations and interact with scientists and engineers.
